Adamina is on the south side of the wreck, using some lumber to repair one of the holes in the ship. At the sound of someone running she calls "Hey! Be careful!"
Leon is so enraptured by the sight of a ship, that he's in no way ready to hear a voice, and nearly stumbles over his own feet. "Mierda!" He looks around trying to the source of the voice. "Is theees your caravel!?" he shouts towards the faceless speaker, his accent think with the linguistic echoes of another language as his mother tongue. Now careful in his steps, his hand grazes the boat, eyeing it with admiration and sadness at the state of the derelict in this shape. "Hhhhow deed you get it here?" Clearly familiar in shipcraft, he's noting different things about the vessel as he rounds the wreck to where he might finally behold Adamina.
Adamina has been repairing the ship with intermediate level carpentry for the past several days, focusing on patching holes in the hull and preventing further damage by water or wind. She is a fair skinned woman of average height with dark red hair, pulled up in a ponytail. The sleeves of her shirt have been rolled up to her elbows, revealing forearms full of bright and decorative tattoos. "It is now!" She calls back to the stranger. "I've been doing some repair work."
Leon is immediately taken. He had literally just woken up next to the redheaded blacksmith, wandered here, and now beholds a vision with a saw. Not having bothered with this fake priest getup when he got dressed, he looks like a 16th century sailor who had fallen overboard 3 days ago, which is exactly what happened. His hands are much darker than this virgin wood as he runs them over her handy work, seemingly impressed. "Esto estaba aqui antes?" He shakes his head and translates, "Was this here before?" He's tall, lean, and moves with a fencer's grace. He eyes whats left of the tackle and pullies, increasingly convinced, "Thees ship, it looks like it came from my time but long before me." He turns to meet her gaze, a latino Flynn Rider in the flesh, "Hola," he says offering to take her hand as would have been customary when greeting a lady, "Soy Leon."
Adamina gives Leon a look of quiet appraisal as he looks at her and her handiwork. While he speaks, she gives him her full attention. "This could be any ship in the present day of my world. It's not the one I came in on; i'm using what of that vessel isn't at the bottom of the north sea to make these repairs. "Were you a privateer, or??" Her line of questioning is curious and lacks judgment. "Do you know Mr. Corvo?" She extends her right hand towards Leon, providing a great view of the tattoo on that forearm; a Kraken with its tentacles wrapped around a running fox. "I'm Adamina Foxx. Or Raposita del Mar to my other worldly friends."
Leon shakes his head, "No," he picks up some wood planks, not yet attached and overlaps them. "No joo see if the planks they overlap like this," he shows her, "Then I know thees is from the norsemen." He adjusts the planks again, "Or like this would be how the Eeeeenglish build their vessels." He points to what's left of the rigging, "I could tell you who sailed dis if we still had the pulleys to know how they rigged the sails, but we do not know?" He even tries to look at the nail heads but they're so degraded they offer nothing. He brightens at her questions, "No señorita, I was not erm, how do you say, legally following orders to do my profession, but is close." There's an impish quality as he confesses to the side of the law he sits on, which makes much more sense when the hand that catches her and brings it to his lips in tattooed to the knuckles, a sparrow on his wrist, "and yes, Lucianito! I met him the other day. Heees good people." When she shares his name he bows formally, "It is good to meet you, yes he espeak highly of joo."
Adamina smiles. "Ah, I see. Well, or North Sea might not be the same as my north sea. We have no Norsemen, or English, only the Spartans and the Rajwnese and occasional vessel from the isle of Gyllene." She turns her head to look over the newly named <i>Raposita. </i>"He is a very good friend to have if you need to kill a spider.," she agrees. " I won't judge you for piracy I've done my share, though that wasn't what got me here. I was whaling. I guess Lucian, I and this fine damsel here?" she gestures to the ship. "Are your welcoming committee. If you are interested in helping me repair it, I would appreciate it. There's no ocean anywhere nearby, but we could probably get it up into the air and fly it somewhere in the meantime."
Leon tries the words out on his tongue and despite maybe having access to history, he certainly wasn't lettered enough to know. He looks up, "If joo have ropes and lines I can get her sloop rigged a few days, good for sleep and agility, no?" At the world fine damsel he can't help but agree, but thinks the speaker could be described the same. "Everyone hhhere so welcoming, I mean except for the Bruja with the scary wings, but I meet Santa Morgana, and she rescue me and give me a job, I meet Lucianito, and I meet the Blacksmith Davis," who he can't hide a blush when he mentions him, "and erryone so welcoming." The thought of Davis' big strong arms are almost enought to banish the panic that washes over him when Adamina says they could fly the ship. Was she a witch?? Was he in immediate danger?
Adamina doesn't miss Leon's blush at the mention of Davis. "I've not made the acquaintance of Davis yet. I have some rope from the wailing ship, but I don't think it's enough to do much. About 900 feet give or take. She leaves dimension of the other two without comment. "Have you worked on a mini ships before?"
Adamina many not mini
Leon is brought out of his fears by the return to ship talk. He can wait and decide if she's a bruja later. Instead he grabs hold of the first cleat he sees in the wood and hoists himself up in a fluid movement. From the deck, he eyes the masts, and shakes his head, "No we need to redo the whole thing. We want maybe like 4,000 feet of rope if we gonna get anywhere." From here, she checks out what she's done so far, "You say you can fly a ship? In el aire?" He leans over and smiles, "I have sailed in so many boats, but my favorites are the vessels mas pequeñas like these. So much more nimble."
Adamina watches Leon's movements I see ascends up to the main deck, which still has a pretty large hole in it that opens into the hold. All that is visible inside the hole is some kind of silk netting."if we want to take it anywhere our best bet is to fly it through the air. There's no waterway connected to the lake to try and get it out that way. It's where is a try. Otherwise, we might as well just take the thing apart for firewood."
Leon assesses the hole in the ship, once again saddened to see a mighty vessel in such a state. He slides back down the side of the ship, his movement and fluidity supporting his claims and likely developed honed over a lifetime of sailing. "But how? How do joo make a boat fly?"
Adamina smiles gently at Leon. "How does boat end up in the middle of land with no ocean for who even knows how far? Maybe we can repair her and find the answer then. Different worlds have different things and we don't know where she came from or where she was heading."
Leon breathes such a sigh of relief when he determines the beauty before him, is in fact, not a witch and looks her over more carefully now. Stunning. "I figure it was the work of the brujas, but I like hhow you think."
Adamina traces the newly placed wood with her fingers. "I think maybe it fell out of the sky. Look at how this end has settled into the ground. If we all came through the lake and part of my wailing ship came through the lake then maybe this was supposed to go into the lake and wound up over here by accident maybe?"
Leon furrows a dark brow as he tries to remember his spawning but its still hazy, "I didno think about dees too much, I just remember a tormenta?a storm, and the mast cracked and I fell from the rigging. When I swim to the surface I was here." He steps over to admire her work, "Are many damas sailors like you where you come from?"
Leon smiles, "Oh all of ze esmartest people dat I know are mujeres, I don doubt that. Where I come from, there are many rules for what a person can do," he runs his hands over her craftsmanship. "For example with esuch limited arremientas, joo do very capable carpentry." She would see a very tall, lean man with a dancer's body, absolutely covered in pirate weaponry, and at this distance freckles on his tanned face, as well as several feint scars. "I for example, if in my time they know the whole of me, maybe the inquisición, they execute me."
Adamina listens quietly. She knows almost no Spanish, and is attempting to figure out what Leon is talking about via the Common/English words he has sprinkled between the others. The accent gives her little trouble; Mina is accustomed to conversing with different people from different places. Her eyes drink him in. Tall, lean, not a bad looking guy, decked out in tattoos and pirate weaponry. "Why would they do a thing like that? Piracy? Or simply for a failure to conform?"
Leon looks around, clearly weighing what he says. His life has depended on it, but he's found himself in a place where those rules seem not to exist. "I?" he slows his words, straining to speak Common more comprehensively. One could say he's about half as fluent as his friend Lucian, "The crimes, no, unless you piss off someone really important, no they just send you to the prison." He pushes his thumb over a knot in the wood," My papa, he practice a religion the people in power don like, and I have some of his blood in me, so I count as one of those people too." This honesty thing, it was strange to him. "Also sometimes I fall in love with people the acceptable religion say you can't love, and then they catch you with them and they kill you for that too."
Adamina gives Leon her full focus. "So your father worshipped gods differently than they did, and they thought that was unacceptable and wanted to harm you because of it, and also because they don't want you loving certain people, but you still do?" She rests a hand gently on his hip. "Forgive me for saying so if it's upsetting, but, Grimwych might have done you a favor by pulling you through the lake. No one here is going to police what gods you do or don't wish to worship, or who you wish to be involved romantically with. You're free."
Leon falls quiet, his hand still on the wood, though it seems to support him as what Adamina says washes over him. A deep instinct to remain stoic is fighting a sudden well of deep emotion. She can't be serious, he tells himself in a language she doesn't understand. Her touch pulls him from memories of hiding in cupboards as a child, and diving under the beds of lovers he couldn't be caught with. In a microsecond he composes himself and a charming smile that must have been a quick defense and disarm for him. He knew he was rocking some good looks. "Señorita, I not so great at this tongue you all espeak, I maybe use the wrong word and mistranslate." He's trying to dodge a vulnerable conversation he's completely unwilling to deal with.
Adamina maintains eye contact with Leon, but not in a way that is aggressive; merely looking. "Maybe so," she agrees calmly. Though she doesn't believe it, Adamina isn't one to force a stranger to confront things he isn't ready for. He can smile at her al he wants in the meantime. "Perhaps Mister Corvo can help you improve your communication skills? He speaks my language very well He's also the only person here besides me who can sing at all."
Leon sees the exit ramp and runs for it, thankful as she offers it. "Jes," he says, "I was looking for him. He speaks my tongue, even if he is from the future and uses some frases I don't understand." He maintains Adamina's gaze, taking in the details of her face, "I don think I ever met someone like joo before." He looks away as he searches for the word, "You are very kind."
Adamina smiles with just a hint of playfulness. "I do what I can," she replies. "If you're interested in helping me get this lady habitable, we could probably find some space in the hold to occupy. Sooner or later they are going to run out of rooms in the tavern, and if we clear out the widow's web there are several staterooms that could be decently repaired with a little work. It's a big job for only me, and we sailing sort ought to stick together."
Leon smiles, "I should be going but I come to see how I can help." He takes Adamina's hand in his rough hands and kisses it again, "A true pleasure, Señorita Adamina." He lets her go, "If you need to find me, I'm estaying at the Chapel but I come back here to help soon."
Adamina nods gently. "May whatever gods exist in this world be kinder than the ones in your previous one." Her own hands are also rough; sailor's hands, though some effort has been made since her arrival to soften and manicure them. "Very well. Take care of yourself, Leon," she says, and adds at length. "If this world is to stay a kinder place, then we should not keep it so by killing each other on one person's say so. We must be better than all that. More creative. More resilient."
Leon walks off likely headed straight into drinking, disasociating, and thinking a lot about being a fake priest and amassing all the ingredients to make black powder and build guns. And maybe, somewhere in there, self reflection.
